Prayer for a Zivug (Soulmate) for Our Son

Parashat Chayei Sarah
Prayer for a Zivug (Soulmate) for Our Son

Hashem, You know, we have been through much loss and grief.
Please turn hardship into joy and strengthen our belief!

O Hashem how long must we pray for a zivug for our son?
The years are passing by, and we are still waiting for the one.

You listened when we prayed long years for him to be born.
Our anguished childlessness we no longer had to mourn.

Please also listen now when we continue to pray!
Bring blessings, joy, and celebration our way!

Hashem, send Your angels, who will help our son to see
how to prepare himself, so a good husband he can be!

Guide us how to be the very best support,
so that to the Chuppah we him can escort!

Did You bring him into the world to be alone all his life?
Please prepare and guide him how to find a suitable wife!

Let her be from a good family, let her be refined.
Let her complement our tzaddik and let her be kind!

Let her be like Rivkah giving everything she can,
ready to follow Hashem and her beloved man.

May she be happy and supportive to our son!
May they share Torah values and also have fun!

May they remain happy together like newlyweds,
working out the challenges without butting heads!

May they raise a family to serve You Hashem!
May their children be like the stars, each one a gem!

Hashem, life passes fast, how long can we wait and see?
You know how we yearn to hold grandchildren on our knee.

Our Merciful Father, to You alone I turn.
I implore You forever Your Torah we will learn!

Based on Bereishit (Genesis) Chapter 24

“Avraham was old, advanced in days, and Hashem had blessed Abraham with everything” (Bereishit 24:1).

HAD BLESSED ABRAHAM WITH EVERYTHING - [The word] בַּכֹּל/bakol – “with everything” is numerically equal to בֵּן/ben – ‘son’. Since he had a son, he had to find him a wife (Rashi, Bereishit 24:1).

“I will adjure you by Hashem, the G-d of the heaven and the G-d of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose midst I dwell. But you shall go to my land and to my birthplace, and you shall take a wife for my son, for Yitzchak” (Bereishit 24:3-4).

Hashem, G-d of the heavens, Who took me from my father’s house and from the land of my birth, and Who spoke about me, and Who swore to me, saying, ‘To your seed will I give this land’ He will send His angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there” (Bereishit 24:7).

“He said, ‘O Hashem, the G-d of my master Avraham, please cause to happen to me today, and perform loving kindness with my master, Abraham. Behold, I am standing by the water fountain, and the daughters of the people of the city are coming out to draw water. Let it be, [that] the maiden to whom I will say, ‘Lower your pitcher and I will drink,’ and she will say, ‘Drink, and I will also water your camels,’ her have You designated for Your servant, for Yitzchak, and through her may I know that You have performed loving kindness with my master” (Bereishit 24:12-14).

HER HAVE YOU DESIGNATED - She is worthy of him, for she will perform acts of kindness, and she is fit to enter the house of Abraham… (Rashi, Bereishit 24:14).

“Yitzchak brought her to the tent of Sarah his mother, and he took Rivkah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. And Yitzchak was comforted for [the loss of] his mother” (Bereishit 24:67).

Prayer for Guidance, Spiritual Revelations and Success

Parashat Vayera
Prayer for Guidance, Spiritual Revelations and Success

Hashem just as You appeared to Avraham in the heat of the day,
I wish You would also appear to me, even in a very small way.

Guide me! Help me, reveal Yourself, and let your Presence show!
Where do I need to improve, and where do You want me to go?

So many multitudes of distractions in my life blur Your presence,
help me weed out the extras and reconnect to my inner essence!

Where are all Your hosts of angels that You perpetually send?
Can You spare just one for me, who could help me to ascend?

Please send Your holy angels from the highest heaven Above,
to watch over all those precious souls that I treasure and love.

Where is Michael’s chesed, Gavriel’s strength and the healing of Refael?
Let me get a glimpse of your servants, ensuring that everyone stays well!

I know we can’t rely on miracles, but may I anyway ask for one?
Even if I’m not deserving like Sarah, whom You granted a son.

Just like Avraham prayed and pleaded to save Sodom,
I implore You to remove the plague and bring us shalom.

As Sarah conceived, I pray to conceive of spiritual offspring,
to keep learning Your deepest Torah, pray together and sing!

I’m not afraid of working hard and digging deep wells,
helping Your world purify from all of the murky shells.

Show me the places to dig, to find the purest waters!
Let it emerge to cleanse all of your lovely daughters!

Please give me only the hardships and tests that I can easily pass,
So I can continue to serve You, emerging from my tower of glass.

Teach me to behold Your presence in everything that I do.
Let me learn from your servant, Avraham, to only fear You.

I deeply desire to engage in Your Torah and in good deeds.
Please bless me Hashem, with abundance and let me succeed!

Based on Bereishit (Genesis) Chapters 18, 21, and 22

“Now Hashem appeared to him in the plains of Mamre, and he was sitting at the entrance of the tent in the heat of the day” (Bereishit 18:1).
“Then he lifted his eyes and saw, and behold, three men were standing beside him, and he saw, and he ran toward them from the entrance of the tent, and he prostrated himself to the ground” (Bereishit 18:2).
These angels were Michael, Refael and Gavriel. Michael came to tell the good tidings to Sarah (chesed/kindness) and to save Lot (rachamim/compassion); Refael to heal Avraham; and Gavriel to overturn Sodom (Rabbeinu Bachaya, Bereishit 18:2).

“Avraham answered and said, ‘Behold now I have commenced to speak to G-d, although I am dust and ashes. Perhaps the fifty righteous men will be missing five. Will You destroy the entire city because of five?’ He said, ‘I will not destroy if I find there forty-five’” (Bereishit 18:27-28).

“Then Hashem remembered Sarah as He had said, and Hashem did to Sarah as He had spoken. And Sarah conceived and bore a son to Avraham in his old age, at the time of which G-d had spoken to him (Bereishit 21:1-2).
“…in order that it be to me for a witness that I dug this well” (Bereishit 21:30).

“Then it came to pass after these things, that G-d tested Avraham, and He said to him, ‘Avraham,’ and he said, ‘Here I am (Bereishit 22:1).
“…for now, I know that you are a G-d fearing man… (Bereishit 22:12).

That I will surely bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand that is on the seashore, and your descendants will inherit the cities of their enemies” (Bereishit 22:17).

Prayer for Following Hashem’s Ways, Connecting with our Highest Self and Becoming a Light to the World

Parashat Lech Lecha

Prayer for Following Hashem’s Ways, Connecting with our Highest Self
and Becoming a Light to the World

Please G-d, call on me, take me under Your wing!
Let me follow You, wherever my soul will spring!

I have been searching for Your presence all my life,
to take me out and beyond worry sorrow, and strife.

Please Hashem hold my hand and show me the way,
to cleave to You and feel Your presence every day.

With You at my side, I no longer will feel so alone.
Please help my prayer reach up to your Holy throne.

O Hashem, reveal the inner meaning of the phrases I pray,
so I can have sincere intention through every word I say.

Help me tuning in and feeling Your Presence in the air!
Let me know that Your Shechina is hidden everywhere!

In the rustling wind, the dew-filled earth, and in the sun,
in my bitter tears and in my laughter, when I’m having fun.

I want to cleave to You, O Hashem take me by the hand.
Please let me follow You, when You show me the land!

The mountains, valleys, seas, and the rivers of my soul,
Open the eyes of my heart and let them lead me to the goal.

I want to grow while working on myself to refine.
Then with Your Indwelling Presence, I can realign.

Help me find myself, in the place where You reside, I want to go!
Allow me to link up with my higher self, where I can truly glow!

Then I can dig down deep from within the murky dark,

revealing points of goodness and elevating every spark.

When I walk before You, trusting You and becoming pure,
I can share Your holy Torah, teaching others to be sure.

Help me to be an example to the world and spread Your light.
Let me guide myself and everyone to reach the highest height.

Based On Bereishit (Genesis) Chapter 12, 13 and 17)
“Hashem said to Avram, ‘Go forth from your land and from your birthplace and from your father’s house to the land that I will show you’” (Bereishit 12:1).

A person is closer to himself than to all these three. Therefore, he was told לֶךְ לְךָ /lech lecha – ‘go to your essence’ (Kli Yakar).

The inner dimension of these words, ‘go to yourself’ is: connect the soul that is in your body to your soul-root that is on high and always connected to G-d. The root of the soul above isn’t hampered by the world. It constantly sees G-dliness revealed. Thus, at the end of the verse, “...to the land that I will show you. When we connect the lower part of our soul to its higher part through our involvement in Torah and mitzvot, we also then attain the ability to see G-dliness in this world! The Arizal said that such a vision is even greater than seeing Eliyahu the prophet!

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will aggrandize your name, and [you shall] be a blessing” (Bereishit 12:2).

“I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and all the families of the earth shall be blessed in you” (Bereishit 12:3).

“Then Hashem appeared to Avram, and He said, ‘To your seed, I will give this land,’ and there he built an altar to Hashem, Who had appeared to him” (Bereishit 12:7).

The reason for TO HASHEM WHO APPEARED TO HIM is that he thanked the honorable Name and  offered an offering of thanks, because He appeared to him… (Ramban, Bereishit 12:7).

“Then Avram traveled, continually traveling southward” (Bereishit 12:9).

Perhaps he wanted to become wise regarding Divinity as it states: “Whoever wants wisdom let him go towards South” (Babylonian Talmud, Baba Batra 55b); (Kli Yakar).

“Avram came up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that was his, and Lot with him, to the south” (Bereishit 13:1).

The extra word הוּא/Hu refers to the Shechina which also is called הוּא/Hu in its inclusion of male and female. Behold the Shechina went down with him to Egypt to clarify sparks and he raised them up from there through his great possessions where the sparks rose with him. This is the meaning of “And Avram rose from Egypt הוּא/Hu. Meaning that he brought up the הוּא/Hu – Shechina…also “that which belonged to him” are the sparks that pertain to the root of his neshama. “I am G-d הוּא/Hu is my name” (Yeshayahu 42:8); (Agra d’Kala).

“And Avram was very heavy with cattle, with silver, and with gold” (Bereishit 13:2).

The Zohar (A/81) explains that Avraham’s exalted spiritual status allowed him to elevate the G-dly sparks that were hidden in the world within the most seemingly spiritually void places such as Egypt. Avraham’s high level also protected him, and he left Egypt spiritually unscathed. Avraham’s descent to Egypt was to elevate the multitude of sparks hidden there. This work, he also left for his descendants to complete, which they did, completing the process with their redemption from Egypt. So too, we, the final generation of this exile, are meant to elevate our environment, preparing it for the era of Mashiach.  Whenever you fall down make sure you pick something up.

“When Avram was ninety-nine years old, G-d appeared to Avram, and He said to him, ‘I am the Almighty G-d; walk before Me and be pure’” (Bereishit 17:1).
I am He whose G-d-ship suffices for every creature, therefore, walk before Me, and I will be your G-d and Protector… WALK BEFORE ME - As the targum, cleave to my worship (Rashi).

A person whose inside is like his outside is תָמִים/tamim, when his mouth and heart are united… (Rabbeinu Bachaya).

Prayer for Staying Safe and at Peace with our Loved Ones During Stressful Quarantine

Parashat Noach

Prayer for Staying Safe and at Peace with our Loved Ones
During Stressful Quarantine

Hashem, allow the purifying waters to wash me clean,
so I can emerge healthy from this lengthy quarantine.

Please provide my family and me with Your light,
to keep together while distinguishing wrong from right.

Keeping apart causes much tension and stress,
strengthen me to be able to clean up all this mess!

When sterilizing and pouring boiling water on every fork and spoon,
we need Your blessing to overcome masked tension and stay in tune.

When separated from the entire world together with those we love,
we need more than ever to learn how to be at peace like the dove.

Please Hashem remove the bickering and the irritable heart.
Let us get out of the vicious circle of tearing each other apart.

Please do not let the lion hurt or maim me in any way.
Let us just show respect and keep the rules of the day.

Please allow the cleansing waters to enter my innards and remove the pain,
so we can support each other through this hurdle and unify once again.

Give me strength to serve You and those dependent on my loving care.
Let me help them, cook, rinse and chop, even if they are unable to share.

Keep me safe from any droplets, cough, and sneeze.
Let’s open the window and bring in a little breeze.

Thank You for Your grace, allowing me this window,
through which I can connect with the world when I’m low.

By communicating from the window, I can come out of my shell.
Still, Hashem, let me feel Your love, please raise me up to stay well.

Thanks for the means to shine Your words from afar,
without having to go out anywhere or drive a car.

I have found protected safety in the sealed ark of my room,
whether by reciting Tehillim, learning Torah, or teaching on Zoom.

Based On Bereishit (Genesis) Chapter six and seven:

“You shall make a skylight for the ark, and to a cubit you shall finish it to the top, and the entrance of the ark you shall place in its side; you shall make it with bottom [compartments], second story [compartments], and third story [compartments]” (Bereishit 6:16).

Rashi: A skylight: Heb. צֹהַר/tzohar, lit. light. Some say [that it was] a window, and some say [that it was] a precious stone, which gave them light  [Bereishit Rabbah 31:11].

A window allows light in from the outside whereas the light of a gem comes from within, from the very essence of the stone.

We can have different approaches to our daily tasks and our role in the world. Undoubtedly, we often need external help to educate, to further our development, and to energize ourselves. This is the ‘making a window,’ getting some light from outside. It also entails looking out, ‘through the window,’ acknowledging what is going on around us and realizing that nothing is arbitrary, that everything is part of the greater scheme of things.

Once we begin this process, we should not satisfy ourselves with merely letting in some light from the outside, like a window. Our goal should be to reveal the essence, to make the gem shine on its own, without relying on assistance.

“Then Noach went in and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives with him into the ark because of the floodwaters” (Bereishit 7:7).

Rashi: And Noach…and his sons: The men separately and the women separately, because they were prohibited from engaging in marital relations since the world was steeped in pain [Tan. Noach 11].

“It [the Flood] blotted out all beings that were upon the face of the earth, from man to animal to creeping thing and to the fowl of the heavens, and they were blotted out from the earth, and only Noach and those with him in the ark survived” (Bereishit 7:23).

Rashi: אַךְ/ach – “and only Noach,” This is its simple meaning, but the Midrash Aggadah (Tan. Noach 9) [states]: He was groaning and spitting blood because of the burden [of caring for] the cattle and the beasts, and some say that he delayed feeding the lion, and it struck him, and concerning him, it is said (Mishlei 11:31): “Behold a righteous man is requited [for his sins] in this world” - [Tan. Noach 9].
